Program Purpose
- Foster joint international research and networking activities between researchers at the world's top universities and research institutes
- Generate world-class research projects by establishing links between Korean and foreign researchers
Direction of Support
- Increase the participation of excellent foreign researchers by calling for applicants to write research proposals in English
- Provide support from the bottom up, based on the needs of individual researchers
- Seek diversification in international academic exchange by supporting researchers from a variety of research fields and countries
- Establish an international reviewer pool composed of researchers from around the world, as a means of ensuring professionalism and transparency in the review process
Program Description
- Budget : 6.3 billion Korean Won (1.6 billion Korean won for 2009)
- Research fields : All fields of studies (research subjects that can be helpful to academic development and science ＆ technology development / research subjects that have need of collaborative works with overseas scholars )
- Yet, research subjects for handbook, dictionary compilation, teaching materials, translation, exhibition, and concert are exempted.
Eligibility
- Applicants should be included at least one item of the Article 5 of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Research Promotion and Credit Guarantee for Student Loans.
- The PI must be belonging to domestic institutions.
- The Collaborator must be belonging to overseas institutions regardless of the nationality.
Support
- Support fields : All fields of studies
- Type of Research for Support :Joint Research among home and abroad researchers
- Duration and scope of support :Maximum 3 years / Maximum 100 million KRW per year
Review procedure
- 1st stage: eligibility verification
- 2nd stage: panel review
- 3rd stage: International Peer Review
- 4th stage: comprehensive review

- An Application Announcement : February, 2009
- Application Period
- Proposal submission(online): April 1 to April 8, 2009
- Confirmation from PI's institute: April 9 to April 10, 2009
- Review Period: April ~ July, 2009
- Announcement of the result: July 31, 2009 (expected)
